Far Above All Things

Paul PayneTeaching Resources

16For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17and he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell.

Colossians 1:16-19

Notice in the first verse it says that all things were created by Him. There is not anything in this earth that has not been created by God; therefore, all things are still subject to God. John 1:1-4 says, 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Hebrews 11:3 says, Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God.

All things are still subject to God’s Word. Therefore, all things are subject to Jesus. Jesus has the preeminence in all things. To have preeminence means to be projected forward, to have excellence, to be superior, to be supreme.

Jesus holds the highest position in the entire universe. When Jesus was raised from the dead Hebrews 1:8 says that God turned to Jesus and said, Thy throne, O God, is for ever! He gave Jesus the scepter of righteousness, and God sat down. He placed Jesus in the highest position in the universe to run it. Immediately afterwards, Jesus met with His disciples and said, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. You go in My name, you lay hands on the sick, you cast out demons, you speak with new tongues, and if you drink any deadly thing, it will not harm you. (Matthew 28:18, Mark 16:17-18 author’s paraphrase). Then Jesus returned to heaven, sat down, and began to expect His enemies be made His footstool! He placed the authority of the universe in the hands of His Body – the Body of Christ!

God is backing what the Body of Christ says. Jesus said, Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (Matthew16:19 NKJV).

All these years the devil has been telling the Church that he is the one with all the power, trying to magnify himself. One translation of the Bible says that Jesus reduced Satan to zero! I was meditating on this a while back, and the Lord spoke this to me, “You will find as you meditate upon this that you have been putting up with many things you don’t have to put up with.” We need to get a clear image of Jesus’ position, our position, and Satan’s position.

The Bible says in Colossians 2:9, For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Jesus is the head of all principalities and power. All power is subordinate to the name of Jesus and to the Word of God. Jesus is in the position of excellence.

In Ephesians 1 beginning with verse 17, Paul is praying for the Ephesians that they would receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God, the eyes of their understanding be enlightened that they may know what is the exceeding greatness of His power. The word exceeding in the Greek actually means super abundantly, far above, beyond measure. God’s power is immeasurable!

19According to the working of his mighty power, 20which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in heavenly places, 21far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come (vv.19-21).

Jesus is above every name that is named! God put all things under His feet and gave Him to be the head of all things!

9Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in the earth, and things under the earth; 11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 2:9-11

That includes Satan himself! He WILL confess that Jesus Christ is Lord! Someone may say, “Well, does that mean that Satan will be saved?” No, it most certainly does not. He has already been appointed his place in the lake of fire, and that is where he is headed.

In Hebrews 1:2-4, the Bible says that God appointed Jesus 2heir of all things…3Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power…4Being made SO MUCH BETTER than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a MORE EXCELLENT name than they (emphasis added).

Jesus is EXCEEDINGLY GREAT, has MIGHTY POWER, is FAR ABOVE, HIGHLY EXALTED, SO MUCH BETTER, and MORE EXCELLENT!

Where does this leave Satan? We will find the answer in Isaiah 54:16-17: 16Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

Someone said, “See there, God created Satan to give us troubles, to destroy us, to cause tribulation.” You had better think before you say something like that. God did not create Satan. He created a beautiful angelic being by the name of Lucifer – God’s anointed cherub. He took the anointing that God had placed upon him, perverted it, and the Bible says iniquity was found in him (Ezekiel 28:15). He tried to exalt himself to the position of the supreme ruler of the universe, and he was thrown out of heaven.

God is saying, “Yes, I have created Lucifer, and I will be responsible for his actions. I will see to it that no weapon formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of Me” (Isaiah 54:17).

You have to realize that the only weapon Satan has to use against you is deception and condemnation. God has already redeemed you and has given you weapons that are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).

We have looked at the position of Jesus. We have also discovered the fallen position of Satan. Where are you? In Ephesians 2:1,6 the Bible says, 2And you that he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins…6And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in

heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Jesus has been exalted, and WE have been exalted. Jesus is in the highest position of authority, and we are there with Him. We have been raised with Him and are seated in heavenly places.
