Have you been waiting for and praying for things to change? Have you been standing for victory but feel it’s getting more difficult to see yourself overcoming? I want you to know that the shift is coming. The Lord gave my husband a word for the body of Christ right before his transition to Heaven that should encourage us all:
“For all of you in whom it’s been extremely hard to see yourself overcoming all that you’ve been through over the last few months and even years, a new story is about to be told about your life. It will be one of your greatest success stories. You’re about to bounce back with a vengeance. What your adversary meant for something bad, God is about to turn it into something good. Your story will be one of resilience and triumph.”
Resilience is defined as the act of rebounding from insurmountable disadvantages and challenges.
Triumph is to enter into a state of being extremely victorious; of conquest over the adversary and overcoming all opposition; of regaining that which is lost or taken by the adversary.
My Jerry always loved the sport of boxing. Many would say he was a boxing enthusiast. Over the years, he talked about many of his favorite boxers and favorite bouts. Many of their stories were really remarkable. One biography that Jerry really enjoyed is the story of George Foreman. He overcame such insurmountable odds.
George Foreman had good success as a young boxer and retired at a young age with the purpose to pursue the call of God on his life. However, as the years passed, he wanted to do so many things for the ministry, the community and the people, but there was such a shortage of money. He thought if only he could make the kind of money he was making when he was boxing, then he could do the things that God had put in his heart for the community.
He decided that, at age 38, he would get back into boxing. He worked his way back through bout after bout, never giving up the dream to regain the heavyweight title. People said the age of 40 was the death of a boxer, but George Foreman proved that it could be done when he overcame insurmountable odds to win the heavyweight championship of the world at the age of 45.
Additionally, during that time, George also earned $137 million dollars from what became known as the George Foreman Grill. One can do a lot for the Gospel with that amount of money. George showed great resilience in the face of challenges and disadvantages to overcome and fulfill the call of God on his life.
One man in the Bible that learned to triumph over adversity was David. In the book of Samuel the LORD had sent the prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse to anoint the next king. Jesse presented seven of his sons to Samuel, but they were all rejected by the LORD. Samuel asked if he had any more sons; Jesse said yes, one more the youngest, David, who was tending sheep in the fields. Samuel instructed Jesse to send for him. David was overlooked by his family and forgotten. He was the last brother to be called. However, he was the one who the LORD commanded Samuel to anoint as king. David went on to show resilience and triumph throughout his life reigning as king.
One story of triumph was when David, and his men had returned from battle to the city of Ziklag, and everything had been stolen, including their wives, children, and possessions. This was so unexpected and surely devastating to all these husbands and fathers. The Bible says that they all, “...lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep"
(1 Samuel 30:4).
In the face of devastating news, you need to always do as David did. David inquired of the Lord as to what to do. I am happy to tell you that the Lord responded, “…Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all” (1 Samuel 30:8) David did as the Lord said, and they recovered all. Not only did David recover everything that was lost or stolen from him, but he also obtained all of the enemy’s possessions as well, which the Bible refers to as David’s spoils. Aren’t you glad we serve a great God who can turn things around?
This is a wonderful example of total restoration through resilience and triumph. When God restores things in our lives, He doesn’t just get us back what was stolen; He adds to it. Another example of this is what God did for Job when He restored to Job double what had been lost or stolen.
What do you suppose God wants to do for you this year? As my husband said, God is rewriting your story right now as you’re reading this letter. He is turning things in your favor. What Satan meant for bad, God is turning for good. YOU HAVE FAVOR! Psalm 41:11 says, “By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.”
We serve a victorious Jesus who triumphed over the enemy. Jesus Himself showed great resilience in the face of adversity, ultimately giving His life so that you and I could also triumph over the enemy. There was a showdown in Hell, and our champion, Jesus Christ, won the victory!
Colossians 2:15 tells us, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” And now, you can walk in this victory every day of your life. 2 Corinthians 2:14 says, “But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ.”
You need to declare this every day when you wake up: “Thank you, Lord, that you lead me in triumph today. I am a walking, talking victory ready to happen.”
Psalm 126:1-3 says, “When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, the Lord hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.”
It says that God turned it or that there was a turning point. A turning point is a time in which a decisive change in a situation occurs, especially one with beneficial results. Hallelujah! Rejoice, for your turning point is here! Psalm 47:1 says, “Clap your hands, all you peoples; shout unto God with a voice of triumph.” Triumph has a voice. It has a shout. Choose to believe the word that was given to Jerry; take it as yours and rejoice!
