While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe” Mark 5:35-36 NKJV
Did you know it is the way you respond to negative words and thoughts that will determine the outcome of your situation?
In the Book of Mark we find the story of a man named Jairus, whose daughter was at the point of death. While Jesus was on His way to heal her, some people came from Jairus’ house to inform him that his daughter had already died.
The finality of those words would ordinarily have marked the end of Jairus’ faith for his daughter’s healing. However, as soon as Jesus heard what was spoken, He said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
As long as you are in this world you are going to hear voices saying things that are intended to cause you to fear. If the devil can get you to open the door to him through fear, he will use the opportunity to steal your peace. But if you continue to believe what God says in His Word, you will surely see Him move in your situation.
Jairus made the choice to reject the negative thoughts that were undoubtedly bombarding his mind. He chose instead to believe, and as a result of his belief he soon received his miracle. With his own eyes he watched as Jesus raised his daughter from the dead and then she got up and walked.
God has bound Himself to His Word. This means He cannot operate outside the spiritual laws He has already set forth in His Word. He never promised to respond to your need, but a response to your faith is guaranteed.
Jesus said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23 NKJV). Make the choice today to refuse to listen to the negative voices that speak words of doubt, fear, and worry. Do not be afraid—only believe.
Confession: I refuse to be moved by what I see or hear. I will only be moved by the Word of God and what it has to say about me and about my circumstances. All things are possible for me, because I believe!
